No. Our Orthodox Christian faith shapes a school culture rooted in love, respect, patience, honesty, and forgiveness, and we respect the beliefs of every family.

Each morning begins with about ten minutes of prayer in the Cathedral. Students sing together and listen as older students read a passage from the Gospels or Old Testament before everyone heads to class, grounded and ready for the day.

Our academic instruction uses evidence-based, standards-aligned curriculum rather than a religious academic curriculum.

Our faith is reflected in how we care for one another and nurture each child’s growth—academically, socially, and spiritually.

Students have art and physical education twice each week and may participate in activities such as Battle of the Books and seasonal clubs.

They also attend theater and musical performances in the community.

Yes. Before-school care is available Monday through Friday from 7:00–8:15 a.m.

After-school care is available Monday through Thursday from 3:00–5:00 p.m.

On parent-teacher conference days, care is available from 1:30–3:30 p.m. There is no after-school care on Fridays.

We have an on-site resource teacher and make every reasonable effort to meet each student’s learning needs. Teachers work closely with families to determine the support or additional challenge that will help each child thrive.

No. St. John’s does not require uniforms or have a formal dress code. Students should come dressed comfortably and be prepared to spend time outdoors in Alaska’s changing weather.
